Project lamps in ceramics at WAUW design

I'm currently playing around with ideas for new ones. ceramic lamps. I've had it on the drawing board for several years actually, and now I finally got around to it. Like many others, I find lamps quite hard to find - and I have to say that it's not any easier to design them! But now I'm trying, and luckily it's fun. I'm testing Currently, we are experimenting with different carving techniques and glazes to find the combinations where the ceramics really come into their own when the lamp is turned on.

Design of both lamps and lampshades

I have designed and sewn the lampshades myself. Once I have sewn them together, I send them on to a company in Jutland who will assemble them. It is nice that it can be done by skilled professionals here in Denmark. This means that I can be involved in the entire process – from the first idea and working with the clay to the final details on the finished product. ceramic lampI like that it all ties together and that the craftsmanship is allowed to be visible.

The unpredictability is part of the charm

So far, the workshop is mostly filled with experiments. Some ideas work right away, but the vast majority need to be tried out several times before they sit in the cupboard. That's actually one of the things I love most about my job – that you never quite know what will come out of the oven.

However, I'm quite happy with some lamps that have been put on display in the window. We'll see what I come up with next...
